Khansar: Home to Various Historical ,Natural Attractions

Also known as Khoonsar, means city of springs.

The city has a nice climate with abundant source of water because of the many springs, beautiful tall trees, numerous fruit gardens, appropriate for many kind of vegetation and flowers, famous for its beautiful fritillaries that covers a wide area on the hills in the month of April.

People have their own dialect in Khansar which has an ancient Persian roots before Islam.

Khansar, a town in central Iran near the city of Isfahan, is home to various historical and natural attractions.

The name Khansar is made up of the two Persian words Khan, which means ‘fountain’, and Sar which shows the ‘abundance’ of something.

Tourists visiting Khansar in central province of Isfahan can enjoy its beautiful gardens and the architecture of houses, which have maintained their traditional style.

Near Khansar, there is also a village named Vist whose residents weave baskets named Morvar using a particular type of wood.

location

Khansar is located in a place not far from central desert of Iran and just 150 km from Isfahan. It is 900 square km and situated in central part of Iran surrounded by Zagros Mountains.

History

The city is believed to have been built before Islam with quite a few historical monuments still standing. Tir fire temple and Heikal Temple are amongst those. Another proof to this belief is a grave stone with Pahlavi script graved on it, it is situated in Ghoodjan village. There is also some evidence suggesting Jewish immigration to the city at the time of Cyrus the great’s kingdom.

 Economy

A city wealthy in water resources, a classic reason for being prosperous, the valley of Khansar is full of springs as mentioned before. That’s the main reason of the city’s birth as a small village first and growing to a city as time goes on. The city is developed from north to south by the river.

The city was initially located in the southern part of the valley, which are now fields and rangelands. One of the main reasons they moved to northern part was easier access to the Khansar River and the many springs such as Pir, Kharckhan, Shotorkhan, Marzangoosh at the north side of the valley.

The main produce of the city are: wheat and barley, fodder, potato, beans, grape, walnut, almond and apricot.

Khansar is famous for its unique honey with a long history, today there is around 3200 bee colonies which they produce more than350 tons of honey for the country or even abroad each year.

Nuts and dried fruits such as walnuts, almond and dried apricot are also some of other products of this city.

۶۰۰۰ out of 40,000 people in the city are farmers and ranchers, 4200 in service careers, and 600 are in industry.

Is one of the most important economic activities all around the world nowadays, this field of tourism let people know more about the importance of culture and nature and how to protect it.

The Iranian plateau has a special situation which provides different climate and eco systems in the area that make a huge climate variety from province to province or even city to city, therefor knowing the area and its characteristic can help us to improve the tourism industry.

The natural resources of Isfahan province is identified and classified. According to this research 90% of the whole area is natural resources like fields and ranges, desert, sand prairie, natural or under construction artificial jungles.

Based on that data there is 27900 hectare suitable for eco tourism which are distributed in different cities such as: Khansar, Chadegan, Fereydoonshahr, Samirom and Golpaygan.

We hope with such potential in the area we could replace eco tourism with polluting industries.

Zagros mountains

Zagros mountains are located in the west of Iran from north to south beautiful and intact, with various vegetation, amazing landscapes and different peaks which makes it a strong attraction to tourists and mountain climbers.

City of Khansar is located in between all those natural resources mentioned above; therefore it can be one of the best accommodation and camping centres for the natural lovers.

Also there are some mountains around the south of city, which are famous among mountain-climbers and hunters. The highest peak is mount ‘’sill’’ that is about 3800 meters in height with a spring called Take that has amazing landscape on the way to top, and has become a suitable rest spot for mountain and rock climbers.

Climate

Khansar climate is a combination of mountainous and semi-desert, various water resources like springs, rivers and also beautiful large fruit gardens have made the climate very pleasant.

Being surrounded by mountains results in a more moderate climate and cooler summers, which attract many out of town tourists to the city.

During the hottest month of summer it is on average 31 degrees high and 24 degrees high at night, the winter weather is pleasant and covered with white pretty snow.

۴۰۰-years old Khansar watermill

۴۰۰-years old Khansar watermill is the only remained watermill in Khansar that has been abandoned and neglected since many years ago.

Many springs and old water equipment like watermills are among the most important attractions in this county.

Khansar watermill is one of those promised watermills. Now, the watermill area in khansar has become a tourist attraction; people come to visit this 400-years old watermill, drink tea, buy souvenirs and take photos with the watermill.
